Dream Girl Band

I was doing tonnes of ironing today and to make it more fun and makes the task goes faster and easier, I always listen to Mariah Carey’s No 1 album.

I could always rely on good old Mariah to make my iron sing and glide silkily into pile of wrinkled cottons (ah I hate them).

Anyway, while mist from the vapour iron gently sprays the clothes and evaporate straight into my face, it sent me into my wonderful world of daydream. I thought if you can make a dream team from a football most capable players why not have my own dream team for a girl band.

It was not really hard to choose my squad my a a multitude of talents and utter gorgeousness because I can my girl band in my mind’s eye.

I can imagine Mariah and and Whitney outdoing each other for the high notes.  While Carly is full of humour and gumption.

Agnetha Folstog would be the blonde ice-queen, posing for her life.

Blondie is the coolest!

And JLO, she will be gyrating to the music like no one can!

Yes my squad will be like no other!

David Bowie A Legend Passes

David Bowie A Legend Passes

David Bowie

David Bowie, the legend had died yesterday at the age of 69, still relatively young and gone too soon by 21st Century norms.

David was a man of Past, Present & the Future.

You could say he was also  A Man for All Seasons.

His legacy will live on.

He was a London lad  like me and only nine years older.

I grew up to David”s music; from his beginings as a pop star to becoming a well respected world renowned culture icon.

He influenced modern music & videos, particularly the New Romantic era of the 1970s/1980s.

To see him on stage with another legend and musical genius Freddie Mercury was sublime.

My favourite songs of his were Space Oddity, Ashes to Ashes (cool video), Spiders From Mars and Jean Genie.( I sing terribly to my wife!)

He easily adopted new personas such as Ziggy Stardust, for which became famous for and much copied.

He was also a decent actor. I enjoyed his movie ‘The Man Who Fell to Earth‘ seeing it twice as well an 80s classic, The Labyrinth. 🙂

He cornered the market in style.

David was flamboyant and cleverly used androgyny in different personas he created with his music which influenced next generations of musicians and singers.

His final song and atmospheric video  Lazarus (the title says it all) released on his 69th Birthday showed how David wanted to go out of this world, say Goodbye…His way.

Magnificent. groundbreaking and unique all the way. His own epitaph, his own way.

The world is a little less colourful now that he is gone.

Farewell Major Tom & Thanks for the music and cool videos…and being you.

Enjoy the Great Gig in the Sky…Starman

Jon Jon Briones is Miss Saigon

Jon Jon Briones is Miss Saigon

As an wedding anniversary treat from the hubby, he took me to see Miss Saigon as I have been longing to see it for a very very long time, since its original inception back in 1989, but have not had the opportunity.

Though I really wanted to see it, I was moaning at Peter for booking it.  I don’t understand myself sometimes. LOL

Anyway, in the end, I truly enjoyed the show, very much so. It was much, much better than I thought.

The Prince Edward theatre was in the heart of London’s famous West End so called theatre land. It is not the biggest venue and thus it is more intimate that you see the cast with no problem.

All seats were taken  ; a ‘full house’ as they say in theatres.

I was  quite surprised as it has been running for over a year already.  We did not see any empty seats. Miss Saigon is a hit!

It was very realistic.  the opening scenes was surprising,  seeing  women cavorting in their underwear, simulating sex & erotic dancing made me feel rather a bit of a voyeur, but I got used to it quickly as the show has no ‘lows’ it was just one amazing act after the others. You must go and see Miss Saigon if you can.

It was actually different and better seeing acting and singing  live to an audience rather than watching flat celluloid/movies.

I applaud the actresses to be going out night after night in their skimpy costumes, doing all manners of acrobatics, mainly sexual! lol  Nice!

The orchestra was conducted well too to keep the singing and music flowing to the story.

But the night or probably night after night,in my opinion, the stage belongs truly to  Jon Jon Briones.  He makes  Miss Saigon the hit it is.

His singing is powerful.& he owns the stage when appearing. Everytime he was on it. you only concentrate on him.  He has humour, he has pathos, he has salaciousness, he has deviousness and he was able to bring out the motivation of the situation he was portraying.

It is all about the American Dream as most Filipinos and Asians long for. Jon Jon easily connected to this aspiration.

Of course the rest of the cast are also brilliant. I was expecting the cast to be made up mostly of Filipinos but there are plenty of Korean actors.

Newcomer, Eva Noblezada, whilst no Lea Salonga (the original lead Kim),  has that vulnerability required for her role.  Her singing is sweetly pure with a touch of purring a la Britney Spears, I thought!

Gigi was well played by Natalie Mendoza who gave the role sassiness and very overt sexiness and wantonness.

Chris Peluso’s Chris, I thought, was rather weak. Perhaps his character was not fully realised. What came out was a very dorkish man, who is too dramatic and not really know his mind. It was really hard to sympathise with him.

I thought Sangwoong Jo’s Thuy was more fanciable. Kim should have gone with him and not kill him but probably Kim is really after her own American Dream all along by way of Chris or any G.I.

Overall the stage effects, music, singing, dancing and acting were superb and standing ovations to the cast and crew were given by us the appreciative audience. We saw why it had won many awards and critical acclaim,

Miss Saigon is of course based on the consequences of the Vietnam war .  Its theme  was partly based on one of my favourite Puccini operas ever – the ‘Madame Butterfly’. I want to see next!.

Meet the Rockabellas

Last Sunday, we were treated to a mini-concert by the Rockabellas, a 1940s tribute band a la Andrews’ Sister, et al.

Though it was 1940s songs, there was a  modern upbeat to the sounds which send children swaying and basically enthralled.  Our Nathan couldn’t help himself copying the clicking and finger snapping in time with the beat. A little girl in the audience adroitly kept up with the dancing and hand gesturing of the band. She was so entertaining as much as the band itself.

It was jazzy and Christmassy, though they were not signing Christmas songs but the whole atmosphere was one of joyous festive mood.

Such 1940s favourites like In the Mood, the  Chattanooga Choo Choo, Tuxedo Junction and Don’t Sit Under The Apple Tree.

The three ladies were charming!

Knick Knack Paddy Whack

How wonderful is this? An old nursery rhyme given the Bob Dylan treatment. Wow!

But then again, this  rhyme, though hard to understand, is so catchy that it also became some sort of theme tune for that brilliant Peter Falk’s Columbo.

Knick Knack Paddy Whack

This old man, he played one,
He played knick knack on my thumb.
With a knick knack, paddy whack,
Give a dog a bone.
This old man came rolling home.

This old man, he played two,
He played knick knack on my shoe.
With a knick knack, paddy whack,
Give a dog a bone.
This old man came rolling home.

This old man, he played three,
He played knick knack on my knee.
With a knick knack, paddy whack,
Give a dog a bone.
This old man came rolling home.

This old man, he played four,
He played knick knack on my door.
With a knick knack, paddy whack,
Give a dog a bone.
This old man came rolling home.

This old man, he played five,
He played knick knack on my hive.
With a knick knack, paddy whack,
Give a dog a bone.
This old man came rolling home.

This old man, he played six,
He played knick knack on my sticks.
With a knick knack, paddy whack,
Give a dog a bone.
This old man came rolling home.

This old man, he played seven,
He played knick knack up in heaven.
With a knick knack, paddy whack,
Give a dog a bone.
This old man came rolling home.

This old man, he played eight,
He played knick knack on my gate.
With a knick knack, paddy whack,
Give a dog a bone.
This old man came rolling home.

This old man, he played nine.
He played knick knack on my spine.
With a knick knack, paddy whack,
Give a dog a bone.
This old man came rolling home.

This old man, he played ten.
He played knick knack once again.
With a knick knack, paddy whack,
Give a dog a bone.
This old man came rolling home.

All of Me – John Legend

I love this song. It is an all-knowing love song. He loves her for being her, not of what he thinks she should be.

It would really be nice to be loved so completely by someone, wouldn’t it?!!!

“All Of Me” by John Legend

What would I do without your smart mouth?
Drawing me in, and you kicking me out
You’ve got my head spinning, no kidding, I can’t pin you down
What’s going on in that beautiful mind
I’m on your magical mystery ride
And I’m so dizzy, don’t know what hit me, but I’ll be alright
My head’s under water
But I’m breathing fine
You’re crazy and I’m out of my mind
‘Cause all of me
Loves all of you
Love your curves and all your edges
All your perfect imperfections
Give your all to me
I’ll give my all to you
You’re my end and my beginning
Even when I lose I’m winning
‘Cause I give you all of me
And you give me all of you, ohoh
How many times do I have to tell you
Even when you’re crying you’re beautiful too
The world is beating you down, I’m around through every mood
You’re my downfall, you’re my muse
My worst distraction, my rhythm and blues
I can’t stop singing, it’s ringing, in my head for you
My head’s under water
But I’m breathing fine
You’re crazy and I’m out of my mind
‘Cause all of me
Loves all of you
Love your curves and all your edges
All your perfect imperfections
Give your all to me
I’ll give my all to you
You’re my end and my beginning
Even when I lose I’m winning
‘Cause I give you all of me
And you give me all of you, ohoh
Give me all of you
Cards on the table, we’re both showing hearts
Risking it all, though it’s hard
‘Cause all of me
Loves all of you
Love your curves and all your edges
All your perfect imperfections
Give your all to me
I’ll give my all to you
You’re my end and my beginning
Even when I lose I’m winning
‘Cause I give you all of me
And you give me all of you

I give you all of me
And you give me all of you, ohoh

Just The Way U R – Bruno Mars

Good Saturday morning to you all.

From the bedroom window, I can see the sun trying so hard to come out from some really persistent dark clouds.

Now and again the sun is winning its battle and this is truly amazing.

I feel bright and hopeful and what better to push through the day than Bruno Mars’s Just the Way You Are. Yes I shall merrily and fortitudely soldier on today just by being just the way I am as;  I am beautiful and I am amazing! LOL

Happy weekends everyone.

Wow, it is starting well already, my dearest hubby just brought me up a breakfast in bed.

Oh her eyes, her eyes
Make the stars look like they’re not shining
Her hair, her hair
Falls perfectly without her trying

She’s so beautiful
And I tell her every day

Yeah I know, I know
When I compliment her
She wont believe me
And its so, its so
Sad to think she don’t see what I see

But every time she asks me do I look okay
I say

When I see your face
There’s not a thing that I would change
Cause you’re amazing
Just the way you are
And when you smile,
The whole world stops and stares for awhile
Cause girl you’re amazing
Just the way you are

Her lips, her lips
I could kiss them all day if she’d let me
Her laugh, her laugh
She hates but I think its so sexy

She’s so beautiful
And I tell her every day

Oh you know, you know, you know
Id never ask you to change
If perfect is what you’re searching for
Then just stay the same

So don’t even bother asking
If you look okay
You know I say

When I see your face
There’s not a thing that I would change
Cause you’re amazing
Just the way you are
And when you smile,
The whole world stops and stares for awhile
Cause girl you’re amazing
Just the way you are

The way you are
The way you are
Girl you’re amazing
Just the way you are

When I see your face
There’s not a thing that I would change
Cause you’re amazing
Just the way you are
And when you smile,
The whole world stops and stares for awhile
Cause girl you’re amazing
Just the way you are

AHA! Dr Who Animated!

I saw a link to this animation via Facebook. It is genius. The short animation captured the ongoing drama in Dr Who.

I still think that Chris Eccleston is the best Dr, but have to admit that each of the Doctors did bring something different which only enhanced the fabric of Dr Who’s history.

The animation is a rework of the stunning single “Take on Me” by the Norwegian’s 80s band AHA, fronted by Morten Harkett.

I don’t know anything about music.  In my line you don’t have to.

Listening to Elvis below and the scream reverberating from over excited fans, I want to shout and join in too. I am afraid this is what Elvis’ effect to his fans even to these days.

No wonder, Elvis is the most impersonated person ever. (Marilyn Monroe, probably is the second.) No wonder there are some that refuse to believe Elvis had died; he is still being seen here, there and everywhere!

Long after his death, Elvis is still big business. Time and again, his music is released with his image superimposed to duet with other musicians of today.

One of my greatest wish is to be married in Las Vegas by Elvis. Who knows it might still happen!!! LOL
