Andy Murray Wins Wimbledon 2013

At last after 77 years Great Britain has a mens Wimbledon winner. in 1936 the great Fred Perry was our last champion. Andy Murray, ranked number 2 in the world beat the number 1 Novak Djokovic in a thrilling final. My Lovely wife and I watched the game in 3D on our TV. The Olympic and US Open champion ‘played out of his skin’ as we say, going one better than last year when he was the beaten finalist. At last he holds the famous trophy. Scotland will be proud of their super sporting son. My distant Scottish roots are happy too ūüôā
Glorious sunshine set the scene for this clash of tennis titans. Hopefully more Grand Slam wins will follow for Andy.

Imogen Davis and Rufus

It is an early start for Rufus and his handler, Imogen Davis.

Each morning at 5:00a.m. they would commence patrolling the Wimbledon tennis courts.

Rufus performs a very important job.  He is looking for any pigeons that might have wandered into the site.

He makes sure that all the tennis courts at the All England Club stay pest free. Rufus scares the pigeons away, thus preventing them not only from eating the grass at the courts but becoming a nuisance to the tennis players during crucial matches.

Pigeons are not a natural prey for hawks so they won’t be attacked but rather scared off as the hawk ¬†circles and flies around the courts.

Hawking was first introduced to Wimbledon in 1999 as an environmentally conscious method of pest control.

Rufus is let loose to fly around each morning and evening of the championships, before and after the play of course, otherwise it would be too distracting to see the majestic flight of the hawk during the game.

This is the fifth tour of duty at Wimbledon for Rufus, an American Harris hawk. At the close of the play Harris can be seen flying and having fun in Brigstock, in Northamptonshire.

Wimbledon Finals

Go, go Murray!

It would be an exciting men’s final at Wimbledon especially for us Britons as our very Andy Murray is one of the finalists.

Murray’s semi-final’s win against Jerzy Janowics was impressive.

We have high hopes for Murray making a history at Wimbledon.

Go, go, go Murray!!!!

2nd Week of Wimbledon

This year’s Wimbledon has seen stalwarts players go out of the game in the most unexpected way.

Nadal went out on the very first day.  Followed by the Wimbledon perennial winner, Federer.

Now gasp, the very powerful Serena Williams was also knocked-out of the game.

Sadly Flora Robson was out too now.

We still have Andy Murray.  yey  Go, go Andy!

Wimbledon Shocker

The man who could dethrone Federer was out on the very first day of Wimbledon.

What a real shocker. Yes folks Rafael Nadal is out!

Probably he did not manage to chill before the game. Apparently part of his ritual was to cook pasta for the other players and himself before and after a game.

Or it could be his persistent knee injury!

Andy Murray makes Great British Tennis History

For bleary eyed Brit tennis fans watching  the US Open  on TV late last night the wait was worth it. Andy Murray became first British tennis player to win such a  major tennis grand slam title for 76 years. Not since the legendary Fred Perry ( later of the iconic designer sports wear) has the  UK had a major tennis champion. Andy has won some top titles and and recently the singles Olympic Gold medal, but this was one the BIG ones!

We now hope he can win the biggest tournament at the home of tennis.. Wimbledon surely his turn will come!
