Jean Writes 2017

Happy New Year!  May this year a better or even better than last year.

This year is going to be an interesting one.  Donald Trump, the much maligned man, will be occupying the Oval office of the White House.  Though USA is not the sum total of the world, Trump presidency will be felt by most of the civilised world.

I read a quote recently and made me smile, NO – actually it made me laugh out loud (and rather felt ashamed!).  See it you will do the same, smile or laugh out loud – that it 🙂

To write a diary every day is like returning to one’s own vomit.
– Enoch Powell

I shall take that to heart and will only write what I think is relevant or interesting me and hopefully to you as well. 🙂

The world is getting smaller and smaller everyday.  Social media has continued to reach all corners of the world.  We are living as neighbours, unfortunately not as one.  We still have to find a commonality in order to tolerate one another and live in peace.

Probably the arrival of an angry ferocious alien from outer space would make us all pull together and be bound to fight a common enemy.

No matter, I am still hoping and praying for world peace.

Comments

  1. Rodrigo Duterte, incumbent President of the Philippines had to shorten his state visit to Russia and hurriedly returned to the Philippines due to the current bloody situation in Marawi, Lanao del Sur in Mindanao.
Apparently the bloody Marawi clash is more than a civil terror attack. Foreign militants from Indonesia and Malaysia have been found to be aiding the Maute and Abu Sayyaf groups.
Duterte had no choice but to declare Martial Law in Mindanao.

  2. Newsflash today, aside from the sad news about the terror attack in Manchester, it has been announced that Sir Roger Moore had passed away at the age of 89.
For me, he was the best Bond. He’s my favourite. I think he was bond, he had that sense of humour and that killer glint as well. Very English secret service 🙂

    RIP Sir Roger Moore.

  3. Went to bed last night with a news that in a suicide bomb attack 22 people were killed and 59 were injured in Manchester City. The attack happened during Arianna Grande’s concert. Our heart, thoughts and prayers go to the all the victims and the city of Manchester.

  4. Peter and I had just got back from a few days away in Liverpool. It was such a fun city. Lots to see. The weather cooperated with us. It did not rain, not much that it can be bothersome anyway. It was warm and bright most of the times.

  5. Incumbent Prime Minister, Theresa May, has announced that she will be asking the Common to hold a general election on 8th June in order to silence her detractors once and for all. Apparently it is a very uphill struggle to proceed with Brexit as she gets hindrance in all corners despite majority of the voting British people opting for Brexit during last year’s referendum to come out of Europe.

I say, Vote May in June!

  6. The main news today is the result of the 89th Oscars Best Picture award. It was embarrassing to say the list. The fake result was given and the fake winner, the LA LA Land, were already on the middle of their acceptance when they had to say that the real winner was Moonlight. Warren Beaty and Faye Dunaway (Bonnie & Clyde) said and showed the card they were given had Emma Stone’s name of La La Land so they assumed La La Land was the winner for Best Picture. To further complicate things, Emma Stone said she was holding the card and trophy the whole time that the Best Picture was being announced.
Donald Trump must be in his element watching this goings-on as Hollywood has taken it upon itself to censure Donald Trump left, right and centre. Well how the Mighty Hollywood had fallen. Perhaps it should clean its own backyards of fakery before obsessing about Donald Trump. It is just so ENTERTAINING!!! LOL

  7. For the first time in the long history of Metropolitan Police Services (188 years) a female commissioner has been appointed.

Congratulations Cressida Dick, I heard you truly deserve the position! 🙂

  8. Well, today is my birthday. I received a very lovely news as a birthday gift almost a couple of weeks ago which I cannot really say. I will though in a good right time.

Cheers to me and to you all.

    Have a wonderful day.

We went to Delisserie in Mill Hill for my Birthday Dinner. The restaurant is a New York Deli Style.

  9. The 64th Miss Universe pageant was held in Manila, Philippines. The eventual winner amongst 86 candidates was Miss France. The last time France had a Miss Universe winner was 60 years ago.

Congratulations. Apparently Miss France was a clear winner, truly deserving, none of the brouhaha of last time when Steve Harvey mistakenly announced Miss Columbia when in fact Miss Philippines won. The whole spectacle showed that though the girls were beautiful, they were not quite beautiful in behaviour. Hahaha

  10. Aha Theresa May is the first world leader to meet up with the newly elected Donald J Trump at the White House.

Another thing is that the bust of Churchill removed from the Oval Office during Obama’s term has been returned to its former place of honour. 🙂

It looks like this meeting affirms the special relationship between UK and the US.

  11. We went to church today to say a fond farewell to our local vicar, Reverend John Wainwright, who is retiring.

He is not completely leaving the church of England but will probably do other things within the Christian community.

Farewell,Rev. You are going to be missed. Thank you for all you help, support and advice during the years.
