The Ex-Man 2018 (Taiwanese Drama)

Episode 1

I do have soft spot for Taiwanese dramas because of Joe Chen and Lan Blue.  Love them.  I always try to watch all of their dramas.

And here is a new drama starring Lan Blue as Dai Hai An opposite that very pretty actress, Raine Yang as Li Qin Ai.

Li Qin Ai and Dai Hai An were high school sweethearts.  They were so cutely devoted to one another but one day Dai Hai An wanted to break up and that was the end of their relationship.

After 10 years Qin Ai, though she has a boyfriend in a hunky guy Zhou Li Yang, she still thinks about Hai An.  It was made especially hard for her to forget him as he had become famous and his face is all over the social media as well as in television and big screen around Taiwan.

Her boyfriend who runs his own restaurant is about to pop the big question.  He hinted that they should start to look for a place for them together.

In order to really determine whether she was over her ex-boyfriend, she decided to attend her annual school reunion, which she had not done before.

There she came face to face with Hai An.  She looked gorgeous and fresh and she was ok meeting him.  But Hai An was blown away by his feelings for Qin Ai especially when he overheard, he was meant to, that Qin Ai was going to be married soon to a sexy muscly restaurateur.

Anyway life has to go own.  Qin Ai was happy at her work as a on-spot lifestyle news reporter.  She was covering a story about a van one day, when she was spotted by Hai An.  He looked at her and she looks so young and happy.  This only made him introspective and rode his motorbike to a deserted beach, where he took off his shoes, socks and shirt (wow 🙂 lol) which is reminiscent of James Blunt ‘You’re Beautiful‘ and started wading into the sea in his tight denim jeans.  Beautiful cinematography here.  Just like the song, he looks like he was about to commit suicide.  LOL but then again whether he meant to or not is immaterial because he suddenly suffered from cramps in his legs and he was going to ‘drown’

At the same time Qin Ai was hit by a car.  She was dying and the spirit of Hai An was telling her to get up.

Epidose 2

Is he or he isn’t?  Dead?

Anyway, Qin Ai is really suffering from her car accident, despite the doctor saying that nothing’s broken.  However she did have some blood clots which will right themselves naturally.

The recuperating Qin Ai started to see the spirit/ghost of Hai Ai.  A Hai Ai from their high school days where Qin Ai admitted her happiest.

Hai Ai from episode 1 was show to have a 10 year old son, but it seems the ‘son’ was a product of rape from a girl he knew or going out with.

He was supposed to meet the girl, Shu Ying, but he was too distracted playing pool.  The girl’s ex-boyfriend forced her and abused her.  She was then shown trying to get an abortion but Hai Ai showed up and convinced her to keep the baby.

It might be around this time that he broke up with Qin Ai.

Why is his spirit been haunting Qin Ai, if he was not dead?  But he did confirm that he was alive and well and had been in the mountain.  He asked Shu Ying to come to the mountain and fetch him.

Episode 3

Hai Ai is definitely alive.  The question really is that why is his spirit as a high school student is haunting Qin Ai.  Very strange.  The explanation given is that it might be from the trauma of the nodules that have yet to subside in her brain.

Hai Ai has a ‘son’ with Shu Ying.  Though they live apart, Shu Ying is really into Hai Ai.  She was so gutted when she spied Qin Ai visiting Hai Ai in his apartment.  She knew then that Qin Ai is still very much in Hai Ai’s heart.

Qin Ai, on the other hand is being pressured to be with her gorgeous boyfriend. LI Yang.  But she is much to engross with her feelings with Hai Ai.

Hai Ai is also starting to obsess about her, especially when he found out that she was likely to marry her boyfriend.

The episode ended with Hai Ai commission the whole restaurant of Li Yang so he can dine alone.

Qin Ai showed up and thinking that the Hai Ai before her was the apparition who is haunting her.  She told him to go away and this cause a lot of confusion.

Episode 4

Gorgeous Li Yang popped the question with a huge beautiful diamond ring.  Instead of answering she run off with Hai Ai.

Episode 5

Seriously this drama is becoming rather tedious, especially about Qin Ai.  She is not particularly drop-dead gorgeous, in fact she is rather boring and yet she is playing one man against the other.  she cannot make up her mind whether to marry the boyfriend or remain single. It is not fair on that gorgeous restauranteur, who painstakingly cooks her breakfast everyday.

Really I am beginning to hate her.

Prince of Lan Ling (Chinese Drama Review & Summary)

This is a very sweet, full of intrigue historical romance with a beautiful cast. The chemistry between Feng shaofeng and Ariel Lin is electric but then again so was Ariel Lin and Daniel Chan.

The story itself is a fairy tale.  Actually the Prince of Lang Ling existed in real life.

It is about Gao Changgong. He is beautiful rather than handsome.  His prettiness is such that it is almost a woman’s kind of loveliness.

And this loveliness was noticed by Xue Wu, the last sorceress, who is still an apprentice, when they first met.

The young Xue Wu came upon the bathing half-naked Gao Changgong when she was chasing a chicken out of enchanted land.

She commented to Gao Changgong that was such a pretty miss.

After the misunderstanding was cleared. Xue Wu brought home surreptitiously the beautiful Gao Changgong to cure his horse.

In the Snow Mountain Village, the young sorceress lived with her grandmother, who was blinded for looking into the future.

She saw that troubled time is coming, where four men will shape the history of China (?)  The grandmother was adamant  that Xue Wu does not leave the enchanted village.

It was apparently in the oracle that the side which has the protection of the Heavenly Maiden  will be the winning the war and would bring prosperity to the nation and the people.

Of course the young sorceress had to leave the village and meet Gao Changgong again.

Their love story though very sweet also had to overcome several upheavals.  In addition there was also Yuwen Yong, who fell in love with the young sorceress, who became known as the Heavenly Maiden.

Gao Changgong loved Xue We very much but he loved his people more.  However Yumen Yong, the handsome emperor, also loved Xue We.  He loved her so much, he loved her mover than his people.

Despite Yumen Yong rescuing her so many times, Xue We had already given her heart to Cao Changgong who is the Prince of Lan Ling, almost the first time they met.

But the person really that loved her the most was a young man called Xiaodong.  He gave his love for her.

I think this is now my favourite historical love story.  It has just the right amount of romance, spiced with some tearjerker and ended in a very Shakespearean tragedy.

Do not be put off with the sad ending because the beginning to almost end were generously plumped with romantic interludes.

Attention, Love! (Taiwanese Drama Review)

This Taiwanese drama is so cute.  Well the first two episodes anyway.

But having seen the preview for the next episode, it seems the budding relationship between the leads is going to be more complicated.

The story goes that during a 108 birthday celebration of a community patriarch, two best friends attended the party with their pregnant wives, who were already aware of the sex of their babies.  The babies were named by the patriarch as Li Zheng (played by Wang Zi) and Shao Xi (played by Joanne Tseng) and he said that they should be together, soon after this pronouncement he died.

Therefore before the babies were even born the babies were betrothed.  Shao Xi was guarded by her father from when she was a girl.  She was not allowed to play with boys and she learned all manners of self defence and more.

Shao Xi was a tomboy and became known for her pugnacious nature.

Years later, her parents announced that Li Zheng, her fiance, is coming to stay with them in Taiwan as his uncle, who was looking after him was going to get married.  Li Zheng lost his parents in a car accident at a very young age.  He was being looked after by his young uncle, who took him to Japan.

Anyway Li Zheng had grown into a very personable young man.  Shae Xi was enchanted by him, everytime he is close by she hears Close to you, as a mental background music!  🙂

Spoiler alert!!!

Episode 3

Li Zheng had started tutoring Shao Xi.  Shao Xi bet that if she gets to the top 100, Li Zheng has to treat her to the movies, 4D with popcorn and drink, which Li Zheng agreed to immediately.

This episode is a bittersweet story for the young lovers.  Shao Xi was keeping a diary, unfortunately it was read loudly by the class bully.  It told all her secret longing for Li Zheng.

Li Zheng asked Shao Xi if he was the one she likes.  For her pride’s sake  Shao Xi denied that it was him after accidentally hearing him telling some guys that he sees Shao Xi not as a younger sister but as a little brother.  Shao Xi was upset and embarrassed.  She left without hearing the rest of what Li Zheng said that he will protect her from anyone.

There are funny moments when Shao Xi tried to forget Li Zheng, like trying to get herself a pretend boyfriend.

Li Zheng is showing a rather steely determination to protect Shao Xi.  This is developing quite nicely.

The end of the episode showed Shao Xi meeting Li Zheng for their date but the class bully was there.

A new face was also been just introduced!

Episode 7

It seems the attraction between Shao Xi and Li Zheng is mutual and gathering momentum.  How it can have 20 episodes is, at the moment, is beyond me.  Probably there will be a gargantuan misunderstanding lasting until episode 19 and resolved at episode 20.  LOL  Nevertheless, I do love this series.

Episode 8

This episode is the sweetest yet,  They almost got it together until the Shao Xi’s dad intervened a little bit. Advising Li Zheng to really see how he feels as he has become part of the family and if the budding relationship between him and Shao Xi would not work out, the family would not want to lose him.  Poor Shao Xi, so confused of Li Zheng’s hot and cold treatment of her.  They did kiss a couple of times.

Episode 9

It is college time.  Though the university Shao Xi is near her home, she decided to move out.  But who does she find out her next door neighbour?  It was Li Zheng.  More characters are introduced into the series.  There is a new girl who was flirting with Li Zheng and Wang Jin Li is Shao Xi’s senior.  Li Zheng adviced Shao Xi to meet other people.

Episode 10

This episode tackles mainly bullying at a new school.  It was done well.

Episode 11

Angelina set up a blind date for Shao Xi.  Wang Jin Li ruined it by telling the boy, who was on the same mold as Li Zheng, that he was Shao Xi boyfriend.

Episode 12

This is a very dramatic (sad) comedic and romantic episode in equal measure.  Shao Xi got a drunken confession and a kiss from Li Zheng.  But the next time he saw Li Zheng, he was about to kiss the conniving Bai Bai.  The scene between Ru Ping and Yu Bin was hilarious.

Episode 13

I love this episode and I love Wang Jin Li.  He has the purest motive of all.  He never let Shao Xi down.  The issues of Bai Bai with Li Zheng was enough to finally drive Shao Xi to despair but Wang Jin Li was there to untangle all the misunderstanding.  He even made a final good bye to Shao Xi as an end to his pursuit of her.  What a lovely boy.  He also showed that he truly loved her.  He was so unhappy and even the gorgeousity of Angelina cannot tempt him from his unhappiness.

Episode 14

Finally Shao Xi is now officially with Li Zheng.  And they are really kawaii too.  Poor Wang Jin Li is in despair though. Go go go Angelina!

Bai bai is not giving up too easily.  She is really determined to make Shao Xi’s life difficult in whatever means.

Episode 15 (Final)

It is such a cute and poignant episode.  Ts are crossed and Is are dotted.  Romance is aplenty, very satisfying conclusion but wondering why the main characters have not married, after finishing college and now both working.

Love, Timeless – Taiwanese Drama Review

Love, Timeless – Taiwanese Drama Review

I love this drama. Love it, love it!

It is a time travel, going back to ten years ago when the characters of the story were in their sophomore college.

(By the way, as per time travel studies and research, it is impossible to go back in time but it may be possible to go into the future.) 🙂

The drama posed the question “What would you do if you can travel back in time?”

Would you change the course of your life?

Would you repeat it as it is?

Would you approach that goddess you had a huge crush on in the past?

Would you cherish that someone, who’s always been there for you?

Zhao Yu and Kai Jia lived together back when they were in college. Zhao Yu’s family looked after Kai Jia as her mother had passed away whilst her no-good of a father was in prison.

Kai Jia had secretly love Zhao Yu for more than 10 years.  She thought her love was  finally realised when a drunken Zhao Yu slept with her at the present time.  Zhao immediately put her in the right that he had only ever looked at her as a sister and their sleeping together was a mistake – a big mistake, a drunken one-night stand.  He does not feel anything for her.  Kai Jia was absolutely heartbroken.

Back when they were younger in college, they had a little group of friends comprising of Zhao Yu (Nick Chau), Kai Jia (Summer Meng), Ruo Bi (Huang Wei Ting), Li Jun Ren (Chang Chieh), Hai Meng (Johnny Yang) and Zhi Ni (Lan Ya Yun)  who always meet at the clock tower.

At this time, Ruo Bi and Jun Ren had gotten married but the marriage is an unhappy one with infidelity and misunderstanding involved.

Zhao Yu is having problems in his workplace and Kai Jia was pining from unrequited love.

Out of the blue, Zhao Yu and Kai Jia received a message from Chen Ruo Bi, the goddess, the girl everybody ( including Zhao Yu) was in love with in college.  The message was to meet up at the old clock tower, where they used to meet and share happy memories.

Anyway, they found Rou Bi Li by the edge of the top of the tower with her guitar and was poised to jump.

Out of a sudden, Kai Jia and Zhao Yu were transported to when they were in college.

From all the confusion of having history literally repeating itself, Kai Jia resolved to start over and get over her one-sided-love with Zhao Yu.

For some reason Jun Ren had taken quite a shine with Kai Jia.

(I thought Jun Ren and Kai Jia had such a good chemistry.  I actually like them to get together!!! 🙂 )

But Zhao Yu is suddenly behaving like a dog in a manger, though he wants a chance with Ruo Bi, his college crush, who incidentally returns Zhao Yu’s feelings as well, he doesn’t want Kai Jia taken away from him.  He was besides himself when Jun Ren and Kai Jia decided to have a weekend away for just the two of them.

Episode 9 also showed that Zhao Yu and Kai Jia are not the only time travellers.  Jun Ren was one as well.  He was trying to change the course of his life, ergo,  being more attentive to Kai Jia as he said he was not really in love with Ruo Bi.  Their marriage was a business transaction between their families.

That is the gist of the story.

I love it and it was quite hard to wait for the next instalment.  It is a 90 minutes each of 15 episodes.  Can’t wait for next week.

18 July 2017

Episode 13 has just been shown and it is a cracking good one.

The pairings are finally being realised properly.

Can’t wait for next week, the penultimate episode.

I am going to miss this drama.

27 July 2017

Episode 14,

It started from where it left off from the episode last week where Jun Ren kissed an unresponsive Kai Jia at the clock tower.  Jun Ren felt really aggrieved that Kai Jia does not return his feelings.  This spoilt boy was upset to find out that a note of “I Love You” written by Ruo Bi was not for him.  So he is taking his frustration out with Kai Jia.

Kai Jia and Zhao Yu finally got it together.  They had a rather torrid kissing scene under a blustering rain.  It was so cute.  They do have a good chemistry.

As the episodes moved forward, it finds Jun Ren and Ruo Bi being married. They seemed happy.

Ruo Bi treated her new husband to a lovely dinner on his birthday, which was sweet but it was anything but.  Jun Ren confessed to Ruo Bi that he, together with Kai Jia and Zhao Yu, is a time traveller and have witnessed Ruo Bi killed herself three times. And with that disclosure, he handed Ruo Bi a divorce certificate, telling her basically that she was now free to do whatever she wanted including killing herself.

What  a nasty boy!

Episode 15

The ending was definitely satisfying.  All the loose ends were tied.

Kia Jia and Zhao Yu are now together.  Zhao Yu said that they are going to be together forever. When they were talking about the first night of being together twenty years ago, though he was drunk, subconsciously he wanted to really sleep with her but he got frightened by the idea of love.  But not anymore as he can’t see his life being without Kia Jia ever.  ahhhh

This last episode is really about Ruo Bi and Jun Ren.  Jun Ren asked for a divorce because he was smarting from the idea that Ruo Bi will always be pining for Zhao Yu, who Ruo Bi really loves.

Anyway Jun Ren not soon after, got taken away by the police for embezzlement, having wiped out most of Ruo Bi’s parents fortune.

He was sent to prison for a number of years but Ruo Bi remained steadfast to him.  She did not sign the divorce papers and she wrote to Jun Ren regularly.

This doesn’t mean there were no wobblies in Ruo Bi.  She almost committed suicide because of her vocal chord giving up and also some psychological issues about her real ability to be able to sing.  Her MySpace site were full of nasty and bullying comments about her singing.

Eventually she realised to just give up her dream of becoming a pop star and just go to a different direction.  She inherited a small wine making company from her parents.

Finally Jun Ren got out of prison.  They are finally together, which was really sweet.  Jun Ren does love Ruo Bi and Ruo Bi loves him.

Kia Jia and Zhao Yu were talking whether they did effect a change in their timeline!

I love this drama.  Totally recommend to anyone!
