Everything visible and invisible is the expression of the same Spirit.
– Sri Swami Satchidananda

I think this quote is very apt to start the new year.

If we make resolutions of altering things in ourselves, it must be a change for our inner as well as outer being as they are one and the same.

HAPPY NEW YEAR FROM GLOBALGRANARY.ORG.

…………………………………………………………………………

5 January 2015

It is ok to say NO.  A major source of stress is trying to please everybody.  So as a new year’s resolution, especially to those who have the  ‘disease to please’  is to cure yourself of it.

If someone ask you to do something which you do not really want to do and yet rather embarrass to say No outright, try saying this: ” I am not sure of my schedule at the moment, let me get back to you!”  This is build your resolve and confidence to say NO!

“Just don’t give up trying to do what you really want to do. Where there is love and inspiration, I don’t think you can go wrong.”
– Ella Fitzgerald

What an inspirational quote! If you really really want something, then go ahead and do it. Do not let small things hinder you. It is like in starting a business, to be successful you have to have a passion for it. Do not start a business because everyone else does. You must do it because you really one to.

Risk comes from not knowing what you are doing.
– Warren Buffet

This quote from the entrepreneur, Warren Buffet can be a double edge sword. You need to take risk at some point, afterall one must speculate to accumulate. It is like in gambling, you have to place your bet and hope for the best; you win some 🙂 , you lose some 🙁 .

The way is circular, peaceful, wide as the vast cosmos, perfect.
– Taisen Deshimaru

I love this quote, it is very uplifting, very optimistic!  It makes life worth living! To get up for in the morning and see what the day has to offer.

The People who get on in this world are the people who get up and look for the circumstances they want, and, if they can’t find them, make them.
– George Bernard Shaw

This one is rather an inspiring quote form GBS and it is true, totally agree with it.

The kind of people who are the ‘get up and go’ tend to achieve their goals and find success compared to those who are happy to wait for a manna from heaven while contentedly spending their time on the settee watching daytime television. 😉 (This is me, sometimes!) LOL And then moan that life is unfair!

If I had my life to live over, I would perhaps have more actual troubles, but I’d have fewer imaginary ones.
– Don Herold

What Don Herold said really tickled me.  I would also want to be naughty, not bad or wicked but just a little naughty, who is into fun, adventure and would try something, or anything at least once.  I think I would like to live life to its fullest sense.

Hope for the best but prepare for the worst.
– English Proverb

I love this proverb.  It covers everything.

It encourages you to expect wonderful things in this life and yet on the other hand reminding you that these same things can also be far from being wonderful.

Giving is non-attachment: simply to be attached to nothing is to give.
– Shunryu Suzuki

This is so true. I am so attached to my things that it pains me to share or give them away!

Walking with a friend in the dark is better than walking with no friend in the light.

– Oswald Cobblepot, aka The Penguin/Gotham

As for the future, your task is not to foresee, but to enable it.
~ Saint-Exupery

I love this quote.  It reminds me of something I read a few weeks ago regarding the difference between wishing and willing.  Apparently wishing something to happen may just be that, will remain a wish because you sit around and wait for the wish to come true.  While willing is the exact opposite.  It is  about making things happen by working towards attaining the ultimate outcome or goal.

1 March 2015

Our greatest glory is not in never falling, but in rising every time we fall.

– Confucius

This is such a positive and inspiring quote for such a negative situation.  I have fallen more times that I can remember but I managed to stand up again by sheer persistence.  It is true, you need courage, lots of it, to keep getting up against those that pull you down!

Pretty is something you’re born with.  But beautiful, that’s an equal opportunity adjective.

– Ralph Waldo Emerson

I love that sagely quote by Emerson, it gives hope to women race!  Slap some make up on and hopefully one will look human! LOL

9 March 2015

I read this proverb from the book I am currently reading. It is very funny and yet it does make a lot of sense.

Love, a cough, and the itch cannot be hid.
– English Proverb

5th April 2015

We are all of us sentenced to solitary confinement inside our own skins, for life.
– Tennessee Williams

I love this quote, it reminds us to look after and be proud of our own body as we only have the one.

……………………………………………………………………………………………..

11 April 2015

Everybody has to be somebody to somebody to be anybody.
– Malcolm S. Forbes

I love this play with words. And it says so much. It reminds me a little bit of John Donne’s ‘no man is an island’ To make our existence counts, we must influence or play a role to other/s.

I am somebody to my son, husband, mother, sister, brother, grandson……..

I AM SOMEBODY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

……………………………………………………………………………………….

12 April 2015

When you are content to be simply yourself and don’t compare or compete, everybody will respect you.
-Lao Tzu

Our thought of the day, is very zen.  I can see where Master Lao was coming from but unfortunately in this world where dogs eat dogs, it is all about competitions, one-upmanship and the centralisation of the ego, survival of the fittest.  Comparing one’s self to others is human nature.  It is innate.

What do you think, folks?

Never interrupt someone doing something you said couldn’t be done.
– Amelia Earhart

20 April 2015
The happiness of your life depends upon the quality of your thoughts.
– Marcus Aurelius

I love this quote by Marcus Aurelius.  It is so true.  Happiness is a choice.  It is up to you to be happy.  Think happy thoughts instead of plotting revenge.  Just leave everything to karma.  I know it is easier said than done.  I do like to think of the what ifs but I tell myself during my sane moments, lol, I can’t really undo what has already happened.  So just look for the positive, the light at the end of the tunnel.

He who has a why to live for can bear almost any how.
– Nietzsche

This Nietzsche quote is so inspiring.  It means living with a strong purpose give us strength to carry on, surmounting any obstacles along the way.

4th May 2015

You are never too old to set another goal or to dream a new dream.
– C S Lewis

Isn’t this just so inspiring!!! Having a life is never over until you say it is over!

7 May 2015

I expect to pass through this world but once. Any good therefore that I can do, or any kindness that I can show to any fellow creature, let me do it now. Let me not defer or neglect it, for I shall not pass this way again.
– William Penn ( 1644-1718)

This is such an encouraging quote. True, why not show kindness where you can. It does not cost anything.

I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it.
– Voltaire

As a new Government came into power today in the UK, I thought the Thought for the day should reflect this.
Voltaire was talking about our rights under English constitution. We have the right to profess any religion, We have total freedom of our person, our property, freedom of the press, the right to be tried in all criminal cases by jury of independent men and should be under the strict letter of the law.

Everything is okey in the end; if it’s not okay, then it’s not the end.
– Fernando Sabino (1923-2004)

Wow!!!!!!!!!!!!!

13th May 2015

What is important is not the length of life, but the depth of life.  What is important is not to make life longer, but to take your soul out of time, as every sublime act does.

– Leo Tolstoy

I do like what he said here.  It is not how long you live but how you live your life that matters in the end.  Be always fabulous!

May 14th 2015

Everything that happens, happens as it should, and if you observe carefully, you will find this to be so.

– Marcus Aurelius

………………………

17th May 2015

Unless you move, the place where you are is the place where you will always be.

– Ashleight Brilliant

This is so obviously true.  In hindsight, I should have been more pro-active in my life.  Lately I have realised that I have missed on some things that are so essential and nurturing.  If only I went for those things that I really wanted…..

………………………….

23rd May 2015

I miss you even more than I could have believed; and I was prepared to miss you a good deal.
– Vita Sackville-West

Isn’t this just one of the most romantic, powerful love quotes ever.  Its resonance is all driven by external forces in greater amplitude; it is all consuming and all enclosing.

This is raw love! This is bitter-sweet, painful, aching love, full of pathos.
………………………………
28 May 2015

Death is to the greatest loss in life. The greatest loss is what dies inside us while we live.
– Norman Cousins

This is really deep. It resonates through my whole being.  It is true.  Going through life being half alive is no life at all.  It is so sad; criminal against oneself!

……………………………..

4 June 2015

I love the quote by the Buddha below.  It is very enlightening.  It gives more credence to the fact that you have to love yourself truly before you can give love to others.  Being selfless has its limit! 😉

You can search throughout the entire universe for someone who is more deserving of your love and affection than you are yourself, and that person is not to be found anywhere. You yourself, as much as anybody in the entire universe deserve your love and affection.
– Buddha

Nothing in life is to be feared, it is only to be understood.  Now is the time to understand more, so that we may fear less.

– Marie Curie (1867-1934)

……………………………………………………………………………….

25 June 2015

A promise made is a debt unpaid.

– Robert W. Service

Whilst I was growing up, a version of this quote was being reminded to me by my parents all the time because I did make a lot of promise when I was trying to cajole someone to give me what I want.  I would promise anything and then I become amnesiac and forget all the promises I made.

I am pleased to report that I have outgrown my misdemeanor.  I tend to honour and keep my promises nowadays! 😉

27/06/2015

Happiness is a way of travel, not a destination.
– Roy Goodman

I love this quote.  It seems happiness is something you discover along the way .

…………………………………………………………………………………………………………………..

28th June 2015

Only those who attempt the absurd can achieve the impossible.

– Albert Einstein

This is a very inspirational quote.  Sometimes something stupendous can come out of something rather stupid. LOL

……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………..

IMG_29815 July 2015

Everything has its beauty but not everyone sees it.

Confucius

This is so true. We seem to clamour for perfection that we overlook perfectly good and reasonable things in our periphery.

………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………

17 July 2015

Fame usually comes to those who are thinking about something else.

– Oliver Wendell Holmes

This is true but nowadays, fame is easier to achieve if you so want it.  With social media growing exponentially, everyone can have their 15 minutes of fame.  Just be careful of becoming famous for all the wrong reasons!

………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………

18 July 2015

Who consorts with the wise will wise become.

– Menander

Awww, this is definitely a thought of the day.  If you want to be learned, then mingle with those who can enhance your intellectually.  I think reading books, the intellectually stimulating ones, counts a being with wise.  There are times when we are put off by people who seem to know everything and call them smart alecs.  But why not cultivate a relationship with them, thereby learn from them?!!!

………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………….

21 July 2015

Some cause happiness wherever they go; other whenever they go.

Oscar Wilde

This play on words by Oscar Wilde is not only witty by so true and wryly funny!  I am afraid  there are people who vanish all the fun and life in a party by just being there.  Don’t be one!

…………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………..

When Honesty is not always the best policy.

Contrary to an old saying that Honesty is the best policy, well it is not! Natalie Imbruglia would certainly know this if she reads the comments in reply to an interview regarding her overcoming dismorphia, a  mental condition where one obsessively perceive a defect in one’s appearance.

Natalie apparently is now fine and had come to terms and accepted that she is truly beautiful.

This is of course big mistake.  No matter how beautiful you are, you do not rub it in in people’s faces in all seriousness as you would come across as being vain and deluded.

So thought of the day, Honesty is the best policy but knowing when to keep certain things to yourself.

Today is
the Tomorrow
you worried
about
Yesterday
– Unknown

This motto is, I find, uplifting.  Sometimes we worry ourselves too much.  We anticipate what will happen that never happens, and stress ourselves in the process.  Just chill!

………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………….

17 August 2015

If you have a garden and a library, you have everything you need.

– Marcus Tullius Cicero

I am with Marcus Cicero with this one.  I do think that a garden and a library can nurture you at no ends.

………………………………………………………………………………………………………………
18 August 2015

When in doubt, gallop.
– French Foreign Legion

I think this saying is the most sensible thing that one should adhere to.  When you feel that there is danger in the offing, then do not hung around.  Run for your life soonest!

………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………

19 August 2015

The only certainty is that nothing is certain.

– Ply the Elder

So true.  Even the sure things can be undone at the last moment without your knowledge or consent.

………………………………………………………………………

22 August 2015

Knowing a great deal is not the same as being smart; intelligence is not information alone, but also judgment, the manner in which information is collected and used

Carl Sagan

This is so true.  There are a lot of mega bright people, who lack common sense.

……………………………………………………………………….
28 August 2015

Ability may get you to the top, but it takes character to keep you there.
– John Wooden

Again true, it takes character to be able to stay at the top of your game.

…………………………………………………………………………

29 August 2015

What one has not experienced, one will never understand in print.

~Isadora Duncan

As human, we do have the tendency to have an opinion to things that we do not know about or we think we know about.  It is true, you have to have experience something similar to be able to understand it.

Do not always jump into conclusion!

The world is new each morning – that is God’s gift, and a man should believe he is reborn each day.
– Israel Ben Eliezer

This is very uplifting. Every single day is a perfect day to kick-start your dream or achieving your goal or change for the better.  Yeah truly inspiring.  Happy Sunday, people!

31 August 2015
Nostalgia is a seductive liar.
– George W Ball

I tend to agree with George. Sometimes we see our past in a rose-coloured glasses. Everything was beautiful, everything was perfect forgetting all the nasties.
……………………………………………………..
2 September 2015

Be wiser than other people if you can; but do not tell them so.
Lord Chesterfield

This quote made me smile wryly. It is so true. It is one thing to be clever and wise but being boastful about it, is another thing. No one really likes a smart alec. 😉
……………………………………………………………….

8 September 2015

The only real mistake is the one from which we learn nothing.
– John Powell

True and the saddest even are those mistakes we keep making because we refuse to learn from them. We keep repeating the same ones over and over again, hoping that somehow it will turn alright in the end which 90 per cent of the time doesn’t.
……………………………………………………………………..

16 September 2015

I have a simple philosophy.  Fill what’s empty.  Empty what’s full.  And scratch where it itches.
– Alice Roosevelt Longworth

This is, in my mind, a version of the more prosaic saying, if it is not broken, don’t fix it. Too right too.
…………………………………………………………………….
18 September 2015

Don’t ever take a fence down until you know why it was put up.
Robert Frost

This quote reminds me of horror films when you can’t help shouting at the actors to leave well things alone. This in mind, I totally agree with Robert Frost, the fence was erected for a reason; mainly to keep away the unwanted. Going back to horror flicks messing with something fenced in will only lead to grief! bwahahaha! 😉
………………………………………………………..
21 September 2015

Don’t be too timid and squeamish about your actions. All life is an experiment.
Ralph Waldo Emerson

Keep trying, keep working, keep doing things no matter how grim (as long as it is legal) because life is one big experiment where you can get results called experience!
………………….
30 September 2015
Society is a masked ball, where everyone hides his real character, and reveals it by hiding.
– Ralph Waldo Emerson

This is so true. Everyone has secret, has hidden agenda, ulterior motive, etc. I suppose that is the only one can survive in this ever fast paced world.
…………………..

8 October 2015

Literacy is a bridge from misery to hope.  It is a tool for daily life in modern society.  Literacy is the road to human progress and the means through which every man, woman and child can realise his or her full potential.
-Kofi Annan

19 October 2015
“No matter who you are, no matter what you did, no matter where you’ve come from, you can always change, become a better version of yourself.”
– Madonna

Comments

  1. Be nice to people on your way up because you’ll meet the same people on your way down.
    – Wilson Mizner (1876-1933)

I think we should all try to remember this, after all life is like a wheel, sometimes you are up there and sometimes you are down below. The secret is not to remain down below for long and it would help if you had develop some positive rapport with people along the way. They would be your support system, which you will need most when you are down your luck. 🙁
